Help Build A New Playspace in the Village of Romeo!

KABOOM! is partnering with the Village of Romeo, Ralph C. Wilson jr. Foundation, and local community members to build a brand-new, kid-designed playspace — transforming an open space into a vibrant place for play, connection, and belonging. Over 3 days, volunteers will come together to turn a shared vision into reality.

Project Information

Who: A total of approximately 110 volunteers from the Village of Romeo and KABOOM!

No construction experience? Perfect. This is a hands-on, all-skill-level welcome kind of day. Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. 
When: Tuesday, August 11 - Wednesday, August 13, 2026 (see daily schedule below)

Where: Romeo Village Park, 300 N Rawles St, Romeo, MI 48065

What's Provided: Breakfast, lunch and water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them.  

What to Wear: The build will happen rain or shine. Please come dressed for the weather. Closed-toe shoes are required; sneakers or work boots that you don't mind getting dirty are advisable. Please leave valuables at home as secure storage is not available on site.

Build Site Rules: All participants must comply with the following practices. These rules have been established and agreed upon to ensure the safety, comfort and respect for all involved. Failure to comply will result in immediate dismissal from the project.

Work together, treat everyone with respect and use family-friendly, inclusive language 
Report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior to on-site staff 
Please comply with all requests from on-site staff 
Follow all safety guidelines 
Only pre-approved power tools are permitted 
Closed-toe shoes are required 
Youth may not participate in areas of active construction 
No smoking, alcohol or drugs 
The use or carry of firearms is prohibited *with the exception of certified, active officers 
Build Week Schedule

Build Week will run from 8/11/2026 to 8/13/2026. Each date will have the following schedule:   

Prep Day 1:  Tuesday, August 11, 2026

30 volunteers are needed.
9:00 AM - Volunteers arrive and check-in
3:00 PM - All prep work completed (approximate time)

Prep Day 2: Tuesday, August 12, 2026

30 volunteers should be on "stand-by" in case they are needed. 
9:00 AM - Volunteers arrive and check-in 
3:00 - All prep work completed (approximate time)

Build Day: Wednesday, August 13, 2026

50 volunteers are needed. 
7:30 AM - Team Leaders arrive 
8:30 AM - Kick-Off Ceremony 
2:30 PM - Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Construction Week will culminate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a job. This ceremony will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2026 at 2:30 PM and will last approximately 20 minutes. Ribbon cutting time may be subject to change based on project completion.
