Help Design A Playground for Cove Point Park

Come join us! We're building a new playspace for the kids of Cove Point Park.

In May, volunteers from the Calvert County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Constellation Energy, and KABOOM!, will build a great new place for kids to play! The project will be kicked off at Design Day, where a KABOOM! Project Manager will lead an interactive meeting for adults and kids to share their ideas!

Design Day Agenda

The Kid’s Portion – Wednesday, March 18th, 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Location: Chesapeake Hills Golf Course Clubhouse, 11352 H G Trueman Rd, Lusby, MD 20657

The purpose of the children’s meeting is to get input from the “playspace experts” (the kids, of course!) about what they would like to see on their new playspace. Youth involvement and participation are important parts of the KABOOM! community-build model and Design Day is an essential first step in including and thinking about the interests of the children at every stage of this project.

The Adults’ Workshop –  Wednesday, March 18th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Location: Chesapeake Hills Golf Course Clubhouse, 11352 H G Trueman Rd, Lusby, MD 20657

Purpose of the Adults’ Meeting: Kick off the KABOOM! planning process by introducing the playspace build model and identifying volunteers who can take on leadership roles. This leadership team will develop ideas and action steps to ensure a successful project. We’re looking for individuals who can commit to weekly one-hour planning calls over the next several weeks and lead in the following areas:

  •  Site Features & Facilities: Utilities knowledge, tool acquisition, delivery & construction logistics

  •  Community Outreach: Volunteer Recruitment

  •  Food/Meal Planning: Prep Day 1 & 2 Meals, Build Day Meal

  •  Event Logistics: Flow of the day, parking, registration, PA System, tables, chairs, restrooms etc.

Choose the Playground Design

We’ll also review the ideas generated by our "kid experts" and select playground equipment for the final design.

 Meeting Agenda

  • Welcome and introductions

  • Overview of KABOOM! and the community-driven project planning process

  • Outline responsibilities and expectations of the community for build week.

  • Establish key individuals with the appropriate knowledge to take leadership on key aspects of our build.

  • Identify community goals and available local resources.

  • Work together to get design feedback based on the kids’ “dream playground” ideas.
